My second tour of WWOOF Czech farms

30.1.2014

My second tour of WWOOF Czech farmsWWOOF cz held its annual meeting two weeks ago in Eastern Bohemia in one WWOOF host farm called Padma Farma. There, some of the Czech farmers got to know each other, to speak about the organization in the country and at the international level and to visit some of the farms.

The meeting ended at the end of the weekend but I stayed in the area to visit 2 more farms.

CHAOS is situated in the heart of a small village called Střítež. From the two days and half that I spent there, I will recall some very good time in the warm and very artistic old farmstead, cooking on the stove and sharing WWOOF experiences and more. Ivan initiated me to the art of his woodwork and thanks to Veronika, I got an insight into some art actions taking place in this part of Czech Republic. Other magic moments were also probably the few nights I spent in the little decagonal pile house. One evening, beyond the window, everything was green and wet but on the following morning, nature around had completely whitened as a smooth layer of snow had appeared during the night… More to be discovered through http://www.wwoof.cz/farma/CHAOS/.

Then, in the middle of the week, I went to Policka, a medieval town situated a few kilometers far. There, I walk around the ramparts, visited the museum presenting an interesting exhibition about the composer Bohumil Martinu. After a cup of tea at the “cajovna” next to the lovely square, I met Ian. We drove to Zatisi pod Lipou, in Pomezi, where he and his family live. Here as well, the house is a traditional farmstead, with patio, partially reconstructed and surrounded by a garden. I then got introduced to the family, Eva, Tereza, Ondrej and their eight cats. That afternoon, Eva and me prepared numerous frames for beehives and continued working on it on the following morning. In the evening, we had some nice chat together about their WWOOF and original professional experience and on Friday morning, it was time for me to leave by train for Prague. http://www.wwoof.cz/farma/Zatisi-pod-lipou/
